Airports and Airport terminals have unique indoor air quality challenges from outside air and also from internal sources.
The major air pollution problems in an airport terminal facility are caused by jet engines, tow-motors, trucks and buses on the both the airside and the land side of the terminal. Additionally, there are various odors from restaurants, food stands & shops. Smoking is now confined to specific areas and second hand smoke is now concentrated in one area of the terminal.
The problem of overall human generated contaminants still exists. Body odors, skin flaking, dander, dust, pollen, carbon dioxide, biological aerosols, viruses, pathogens, etc. are additional factors causing serious levels of irritation to the occupants, especially those at higher risk, children, elderly and those with existing conditions.
