Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are classified as a chemical contaminant. VOCs can be harmful to building occupants when levels are allowed to accumulate in an occupied space.
Examples of the most common VOC’s include Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide and Nitrous Dioxide.
VOCs exist everywhere. Whenever a building is close to the source of automobile, truck and airplane exhaust or located in close proximity to a road, interstate, airport or a gas station, there will be an increase in the levels of VOCs.
VOCs are extremely small particulates, less than 3 microns in size. They cannot be removed using a standard HVAC system and its filters, no matter how good the filter is, it will be ineffective against particles this size. Even expensive charcoal-based filters will not be able to mask the odor caused by high VOC levels.
Opening the windows to allow more outside air will only allow more particulates into the space and this will dramatically increase your energy bill as the system struggles to heat and cool the space.
How to remove potentially harmful VOCs from indoor facilities commonly found in these industries and building applications:
- Buildings with helipads
- Buildings close to heavily trafficked roads and interstates
- Medical Facilities where exhaust is close in proximity to OA Intake
- Buildings with loading docks, where trucks back into loading bays
- Airport terminals and baggage handling facilities
- Shopping Malls
The CosaTron Solution:
Install a CosaTron Air Purification System that controls VOCs and other particulate matter from recirculating in the facility. The CosaTron will integrate seamlessly into your existing air handling system and reduce your HVAC energy costs. CosaTron treats the air, removing VOCs. In addition, airborne bacteria, fungi, pollen and a host of other particulate matter will be removed as well resulting in a cleaner, more comfortable space.
The CosaTron Benefits:
Controls contaminants in the treated air space
Improves indoor air quality and working conditions by eliminating potentially harmful fumes and odors
Purified air allows for reduced outside air draw, per ASHRAE 62
Odors are reduced
Routine cleaning is reduced
Occupants are more comfortable
